New Zealand's Special Trade Envoy Mike Peterson is recently back from China and says local reports indicate about 20% of China's pig herds have been culled because of African swine fever - unofficial accounts put it as high as 35%. As a result protein prices world wide have leapt up as China shores up its supply of protein. And Brexit continues to impact on our trade. NZ sheepmeat exports for the first three months of the year were up 11% world wide, but our exports to the UK are down 18% as companies take advantage of other markets.
