Mexican entrepreneur makes sugar alternative xylitol from corn

An alternative to sugar that's lower in calories, doesn't cause cavities, can be used by diabetics and is envionmentally friendly almost sounds too good to be true. But that's exactly what a 29-year-old in Mexico has invented. Javier Larragoiti's recently been awarded three hundred and ten thousand US dollars by Chivas Venture - which gives 1 million dollars to social entrepeneurs each year. It's to help him and his company Xsugar alernative called xylitol, which is traditionally made from birch trees - and comes at a cost. But Javier told Indira he's found a way to make xylitol out of corn.
