10:18 "No amount of alcohol is safe"

There are so many ways we are massaged into believing that alcohol is a natural product that has been around since the birth of humanity...and, indeed, for the past 10,000 years for many civilisations alcohol has been a source of hydration and nourishment.

Alcohol acts as a lubricant at almost every function you care to mention, except for those whose religion restricts its use. We believe we need it to "loosen up" or to get the party started, and there's no doubt it does do that, otherwise we wouldn't be offering the champagne, pouring the wine, cracking open the beer.

The Cancer Society would like us to know that alcohol is a Group 1 carcinogenic like benzine, formaldehyde and asbestos ... and even if it's consumed in small amounts, it increases the risk of several types of cancer.

10:25 Hutt Valley Health services on "Shaky Ground"

Hutt Valley Hospital's Hertaunga building - the main building - has been deemed quake prone. Planning is underway to exit services and staff from the site.

The building was designed in the early/mid-1970s, just prior to significant advances in seismic design codes in New Zealand.  As a result, the building lacks some of the configuration and detailing of more modern structures that better enable them to resist major earthquake shaking.

Hutt City Mayor Campbell Barry is worried about what it means for health services in his region, both now and in the future

10:30 Aged Care in crisis - how would National fix it?

The aged care sector is short of more than a thousand nurses, which has forced the closure of some resthomes and the loss of 500 aged care beds in the last six months.

This means those of us who are vulnerable and in need of care can be languisihinig on long wait lists for two years or more, and those caring for them have little chance at respite.

National's spokesperson Dr Shane Reti says "we are watching a sector break in front of our eyes"

So how would he fix it ?
