10:45 Aaron Gilmore on the comeback

Being a politician is often a tough thankless job . . . so is is any wonder not enough people want to do it.

One person who knows all about the scrutiny faced by elected officials is former National MP Aaron Gilmore

In 2013 Gilmore resigned after drunken behavior at a Hanmer Springs hotel, where he threatened to use his influence to have a waiter sacked.

He hasn't kept out of the headlines since, and in February was taken to court by his parents over an unpaid loan worth two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

He was also ordered to pay $11,000 in costs after taking his landlord to court and losing.

But he hasn't been put off and is running for a seat on the Wellington City Council.
