Burmese refugees drowned at Muriwai embraced NZ life

From Morning Report, 7:46 am on 18 July 2018

The daughter of refugee Burmese couple Kay Dah Ukay and Mu Thu Pa - who lost their lives in rough surf at Muriwai Beach on Monday - says her parents embraced New Zealand life. One of the couple's nine children, 25-year-old Dah Too Ukay, was a child when her family fled Myanmar and travelled to a refugee camp in Thailand, where they lived before moving here. Dah, speaking to reporter Katie Scotcher at the family home in Auckland, says Muriwai was one of her parents' favourite fishing spots.
