Cerven did not commit 'suicide by cop' - coroner

A man who was shot dead by the police in a central Auckland park in 2015 was not a case of 'suicide by police'. David Cerven, a 21-year-old Slovakian national, was killed by officers in Myers Park after telling them he had a gun. But coroner Katherine Greig has ruled that although Mr Cerven's action contributed to his death, she was unable to conclude it was suicide.
