Māori adviser role 'not a substitute' for Māori ward

From Morning Report, 6:16 am on 26 July 2018

A Hawke's Bay regional councillor says a new Māori advisor role will not do enough to ensure Māori representation. The creation of the job follows the council's narrow rejection last year of a Māori ward for a region that is 23 percent Māori. Councillor Rex Graham told RNZ reporter Te Aniwa Hurihanganui the role is a good first step, but it's not a substitute for a Māori ward.
