Tegel defends treatment of chickens on Auckland farm

From Morning Report, 7:29 am on 31 July 2018

Tegel has rejected accusations that it doesn't look after its chickens after an animal welfare group went into one of its farms in north Auckland and filmed disturbing footage of injured and flustered birds. Direct Animal Action went into the chicken shed through an unlocked door at a farm near Helensville and shot footage of birds with large open wounds and some lying on their backs unable to move. But Tegel argues that the activists deliberately agitated and endangered their birds. They invited RNZ to the farm where the footage was shot. RNZ reporter Jessie Chiang went to take a look.
