Archbishop Philip Wilson resigns over sex abuse cover-up

From Morning Report, 8:50 am on 31 July 2018

The Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide Philip Wilson has given into months of pressure and resigned. The resignation has been accepted by the Pope. Earlier this month the 67-year-old was sentenced to a year in detention after becoming the highest ranking church official to ever be convicted of concealing child sex abuse by a priest. An Australian court found he'd failed to report allegations against paedophile priest Jim Fletcher during the 1970s. Calls have been growing for him to resign - including from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Peter Gogarty was a victim of Fletcher's and has been heavily involved in the case. He talks to Alex Perrottet.
