Wally Haumaha appointment a 'debacle' - Chris Bishop

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 10 August 2018

Victims advocate Louise Nicholas says other women complained to her about being bullied by deputy police commissioner Wally Haumaha even before his controversial promotion. In Parliament on Thursday, the National Party asked about claims that three women had been victimised by Mr Haumaha during a joint project between police, Corrections and the Ministry of Justice. Ms Nicholas first raised the red flag about Mr Haumaha's appointment when she revealed comments he made in 2004 defending the three officers accused of gang raping her in the 1990s. Wally Haumaha, Police Commissioner Mike Bush and the other deputy commissioner Mike Clement all declined to be interviewed. No-one from the Ministry for Justice or the Department of Corrections was available for interview but issued written statements. National's police spokesman Chris Bishop talks to Guyon Espiner.
