Turtles on the loose: Council to deploy trap to capture 'pest'

A new invention that uses swimming pool noodles, PVC piping and some mesh could help eradicate wild turtles in Northland waterways. The Tricky Turtle Trap is a device designed to trap turtles that are causing extensive damage to the local ecosystem. Sightings of wild turtles, especially red-eared slider turtles, have been increasing recently, forcing the Northland Regional Council to think outside the square. The council's biosecurity officer for freshwater pests, Ashlee Laurence, talks to Guyon Espiner.
