Roundup 'safer than bleach' - Monsanto

The global chemical company Monsanto is describing its weedkiller Roundup as safer than household bleach. The company has been ordered to pay more than US$400 million to a Californian man Dewayne Johnson after a jury found herbicides containing glyphosate had given him non-hodgkins lymphoma. Monsanto says it will appeal against the jury's verdict. The government here has now asked the Environmental Protection Authority to reassess whether glyphosate, the main ingredient in Round Up, should be classed as a hazardous substance. Harvey Glick from Monsanto's Singapore office told Morning Report producer Jeremy Wilkinson the chemical does not cause cancer and he doesn't know why a jury would have decided it did.
