Whaitiri investigation sparked by assault complaint

From Morning Report, 6:40 am on 31 August 2018

RNZ has learned former Customs Minister Meka Whaitiri is being investigated over claims she manhandled a staff member. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern stood Ms Whaitiri aside on Thursday pending an investigation into what was called "a staffing matter". Sources have told RNZ the inquiry by Ministerial Services will look into an accusation Ms Whaitiri pushed her new press secretary after a heated argument with the woman on Wednesday. The National leader Simon Bridges says he doesn't have all the details, but it must be a serious matter for Ms Whaitiri to stand down.
