Finding human remains 'less likely' - Pike River Mine recovery boss

From Morning Report, 7:45 am on 3 September 2018

The three best options to get back into Pike River mine safely will be scrutinised from every angle from next week. It's one of the final stages of planning before the agency in charge of the mine's recovery makes its recommendation to Pike Re-Entry Minister Andrew Little whether or not to go ahead with re-entry.

Pike River Recovery Agency chief executive Dave Gawn tells Guyon Espiner it's less likely human remains will be recovered.

"There is still uncertainty around what actually happened, so the primary purpose of recovering the drift is to conduct a forensics examination of everything that's in there, to try and determine what happened.

"There may be human remains, I won't say it is unlikely, but it is less likely."
