Heavy-duty firefighting trucks in short supply - union

From Morning Report, 6:40 am on 11 September 2018

The Professional Firefighter's Union says Auckland doesn't have enough specialist firefighting trucks to keep people in high-rise buildings safe. It says the number of trucks with ladders of up to 30 metres has been cut from five to three in Auckland over the past 20 years. The heavy-duty trucks are designed for high-rise rescue jobs and for delivering large volumes of water accurately from height. Firefighter and union representative John Waldow told RNZ reporter Jessie Chiang that firefighters need more resources. But Fire and Emergency New Zealand says it has enough heavy trucks, which are only used a few times each year.
