EU punishes Hungary for 'threat' to democracy

The European parliament has voted to punish Hungary for cracking down on democratic institutions, setting off a process that could ultimately lead to the suspension of the country's voting rights in the EU. The EU says Hungary's government poses a "systematic threat" to democracy and the rule of law. It has been accused of attacks on the media, minorities, and the rule of law - charges which the Prime Minister Viktor Orban denies. He also announced plans to address the immigration issue which is a large part of the dispute with Hungary. Mr Juncker promised an additional ten thousand border guards in the next two years.
