Kānuka creating hope for East Coast

A tree that was once cleared without a second thought, the kānuka, could be the answer to land erosion on the East Coast - if the usefulness of its oil can be proven. The tree's oil is known by Māori for its health benefits. If that local knowledge is backed by science, it could help create a new business for the area - and see more trees planted that will protect against slips and erosion.
