No basketball for Selwyn towns due to safety fears

A small South Island council denies it over-reacted in removing basketball hoops from three rural communities over safety concerns. The decision by the Selwyn District Council was taken after a teenager in Auckland decided to hang from the rim of a hoop, causing it to detach and land on him, leaving him seriously injured.
