Salient urges Victoria University to apologise over student's removal

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 26 September 2018

The editor of Victoria University's student magazine Salient is astonished the University has not apologised over the treatment of a mentally distressed student. Dani, a first-year Victoria University student last year, was asked to leave her residential hall the day after she tried to commit suicide. Victoria University's student and campus living director Rainsforth Dix says that the hall environment was not considered conducive to Dani's recovery. Robyn McGill works with teenagers as a counsellor and is a past president of the Association of Counsellors. She says the University failed in its duty of care, and it is at odds as how they advertise the halls. The editor of Salient, Louise Lin, also believes the hall management should have ensured help for Dani, rather than asking her to leave. She talks to Susie Ferguson.
