Principals dubious about student truancy report

From Morning Report, 8:49 am on 1 October 2018

School principals are dubious about research suggesting initiatives from countries including Bhutan and Peru can help New Zealand fight rising truancy. A report for the Ministry of Education says schools could schedule fun classes in the morning, teach traits like resilience and perseverance, and appeal to Māori and Pasifika parents' sense of reciprocity. The report comes after the principal of Hamilton's Fraser High School was criticised for telling students their truancy could lead to domestic violence and unemployment. RNZ education correspondent, John Gerritsen, has the story.
