Kaipara community relieved as Tegel mega-farm scrapped

A campaigner is relieved the government has stopped the development of the country's largest chicken farm in her back yard. The Overseas Investment Office has turned down the Tegel's bid to buy more than 200 hectares of former dairy land at Arapohue, near Dargaville. But mass opposition from the Kaipara community and local authorities' reluctance to issue resource consents has made the proposal too risky for the government to approve. Rosie Donovan would have lived just over a kilometre from the farm, had it been built. She told RNZ reporter Eva Corlett she's relieved it's not going ahead.
