Govt plans for 400 overseas teachers to cover shortage

From Morning Report, 8:12 am on 4 October 2018

With further industrial action looming, the government has confirmed it is advertising overseas for experienced teachers to work during the 2019 academic year. The Education Minister Chris Hipkins told the Post Primary Teachers' Association conference this week they're planning to find at least 400 overseas school teachers. Mr Hipkins says he doesn't see overseas recruitment as the ultimate solution to New Zealand's teacher shortage, but training new teachers locally will take some time. The PPTA's president is Jack Boyle. He talks to Susie Ferguson.
