Lamb new stars of rural school show days

From Morning Report, 8:55 am on 18 October 2018

Lambs took their opportunity to hog centre stage at Ngaere School's "show day" in Taranaki yesterday with families being asked to keep calves on the farm in the wake of the mycoplasma bovis scare.

Rural schools throughout the province have heeded advice from the Ministry for Primary Industries not to go ahead with calf shows and risk spreading the debilitating disease further.

RNZ's Taranaki-Whanganui reporter Robin Martin went along to find out if the decision had put a dampener on the event.

Seth told Robin his pet rooster Geoffrey is a bit bitey and not that nice. "If he wins, I might keep him for a little bit more, if he loses, he's getting his head chopped off!"
