NZ defends $15m given to Papua New Guinea for APEC summit

New Zealand's government has defended giving Papua New Guinea $15 million to help it get ready to host the APEC leaders summit.

PNG is relying heavily on help from the likes of Australia, China and New Zealand for money to build roads and hotels, and provide security for the leaders who are due to arrive in two weeks.

While the capital, Port Moresby, has been the focus of a great deal of upgrading, RNZ Pacific's Johnny Blades reports that local people are frequently struggling to get basic services such as health care.
