Ruapehu early warning alarm essential - volcanologist

From Morning Report, 6:13 am on 1 November 2018

A volcanologist says the early-warning system on Mount Ruapehi is essential. Ruapehu Alpine Lifts, which runs Whakapapa and Turoa ski fields, is locked in negotiations with the Department of Conservation over who should pay for the eruption warning system. That system is one of five in the volcanic alarm network for Tongariro National Park. Department of Conservation volcanology adviser Dr Harry Keys told RNZ reporter Matthew Theunissen the system remains active, and funding will be found one way or another. But, he says there's a danger that some people have forgotten the past.
