Peters defends Immigration Minister's drug smuggler decision

The Immigration Minister is under fire for a decision for not deporting a Czech drug smuggler to stay but the deputy prime minister says it's the officials, not the minister, who have some serious lessons to learn. Winston Peters' was responding to the unfolding saga of Karel Sroubek, who was granted the right to stay by the Immigration Minister Iain Lees-Galloway, which is now under review as conflicting information about his case continues to come to light. Mr Peters says Immigration officials' failure to know if Sroubek had returned home or not was the most basic of checks and there's no excuse.
