NZTA leniency over dodgy WOFs 'unacceptable' - Gammie

From Morning Report, 8:15 am on 22 November 2018

The Transport Agency has admitted knowing since 2011 that a Dargaville mechanic was issuing warrants without doing crucial checks. A passenger in one of the cars died when his frayed seatbelt failed in a crash in January, just weeks after being given a warrant by Dargaville Diesel Specialists. NZTA says it knew since 2011 there were serious problems with the firm's warrants but took a lenient approach, including during a visit late last year. Fergus Gammie is the chief executive of NZTA. He tells Guyon Espiner the process has been 'unacceptable'.
