Trump hits out at US judiciary again

From Morning Report, 6:46 am on 23 November 2018

The Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts has spoken out against President Donald Trump, after he called a Judge an "Obama judge". Mr Trump was targeting the California judge who blocked his attempt to ban migrants from seeking asylum after crossing the border. That prompted a reaction from Chief Justice Roberts, who released the following statement: "We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges. What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them. That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for." Mr Trump has since made further comments about the Chief Justice and the judicial system on Twitter, and said this in a press conference in Florida. Simon Marks is our correspondent in Washington. He joins us with his analysis.
