Govt silence on Chinese intimidation 'disturbing' - open letter

From Morning Report, 6:47 am on 26 November 2018

A Canterbury University professor who believes she was burgled, and her car was tampered with, by Chinese spies says the police investigation into her case is complete, but the outcome is in the government's hands. In an open letter to the Prime Minister, 29 academics, researchers and human rights advocates say the government's silence on Anne-Marie Brady's case is disturbing, and they're urging Jacinda Ardern to make clear to China that attempts to silence academic voices in this country, will not be tolerated. A spokesperson for Ms Ardern says she supports and defends the legal right academic freedom, as set out in the Education Act, but she won't comment on the Professor Brady's case before the police investigation is finished. Professor Brady says the police have done their bit - the rest in in the government's hands.
