Sex offenders in shared prison cells despite Davis' promise

From Morning Report, 6:09 am on 3 December 2018

Hundreds of sex offenders are being placed in shared prison cells despite warnings that it is dangerous and should be stopped. Figures from Corrections show that in October this year there were 674 double bunked inmates who had a previous or current sex conviction. The Males Survivors of Sexual Abuse trust says that's inhuman but Corrections says it has no choice. The Minister of Corrections, Kelvin Davis says that while he would prefer no one shared cells, he inherited a prison system under stress and that means people with sex offences have been double-bunked. Mr Davis told Katie Doyle that doesn't necessarily mean that they pose a threat to the person they share a cell with.
