$1.4b road safety updgrade

Police are running out of ways to get the message through to people about how to get home for Christmas without becoming a statistic. As much of the country prepares to knock off work for the holidays, the Police Minister says the reality is a number of people won't actually make it home because drivers continue to speed, drive while drunk, drugged or fatigued or choose not to wear a seatbelt. The Government is spending 1.4 billion dollars on road safety upgrades over the next three years, but not in time to make a difference this year, which is shaping up to have one of the worst road tolls in nearly a decade.
