Shipwrecked: Restorers fight to fundraise and rebuild ship

From Morning Report, 7:53 am on 20 December 2018

A group of keen restorers are fighting to fundraise and rebuild a shipwreck found under the dunes of the Kaipara heads. The ship is a schooner from 1863 called Daring, uncovered after a storm. The ship was voyaging from New Plymouth to Manukau harbour in 1865 when it was intentionally run aground to save the crews' lives. A group quickly formed to protect the rare find and excavate the wreck from the sand, and work is now under way to restore the boat and find a permanent location to exhibit it. Although it hasn't all been plain sailing. John Street is from the Daring Restoration Charitable Trust.
