Cape Kidnappers closed after major slip

From Morning Report, 6:09 am on 24 January 2019

Access to Cape Kidnappers beach in Hawke's Bay is closed after two walkers were injured - one critically - by rockfall that swept them off the beach and into the sea on Wednesday afternoon. The couple were walking on Cape Kidnappers beach towards the gannet colony when tonnes of rocks and earth fell from the clifftops at about half past two. Tourists on their way to see the Cape Kidnapper gannets came to their aid and the pair were flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital. The owner of Gannet Beach Adventures, Colin Lindsay, says the tourists and locals worked together to help the couple.
