Teachers decry 'shameful' ignorance of NZ history
History teachers have called out New Zealanders' shameful ignorance about their colonial history and urged the government to do something about it. The History Teachers Association has launched a petition calling for every student to learn New Zealand history as a compulsory subject. It says New Zealand is one of the few countries that doesn't require its schools to teach its own history and only an elite few learn about it any depth.
