ACC $40,000 to $500 payout cut 'discriminatory'

From Morning Report, 7:56 am on 5 February 2019

A woman who had her ACC payout cut from $40,000 to just $500 has won backing from the Human Rights Review Tribunal. Maree Hennessy, a mother of two originally from Waikato, had her ACC payout in 2010 cut to almost nothing because all her welfare benefits were deducted from it, under the Government's "one benefit" principle. But the tribunal has now ruled that that cut was discriminatory. Greg Robins is a senior solicitor at the Office of Human Rights Proceedings.
