Teenager faces painful wait for surgery

From Morning Report, 6:43 am on 12 February 2019

A mother whose teenager has painful benign bone tumours in two parts of her body is desperately hoping district health boards and junior doctors will settle their dispute soon. Junior doctors are walking off the job this morning for two days. The woman, who we are calling Joan, told our health correspondent Karen Brown her teenager had originally been given a date of January 17 for her surgery. Joan says she understands that doctors need to stand up for their employment conditions but says there should be a plan in place for people like her daughter who is now at risk of not getting her much-needed surgery before March.
