Landlords group acknowledges potential privacy breach

From Morning Report, 8:51 am on 12 February 2019

A landlords group is defending a register it keeps of people with court convictions. The South Canterbury Property Investors' Association has been collating court case information published in the Timaru Herald since 1993 - and making the information available to its paying members. Yesterday the Privacy Commissioner John Edwards told Morning Report that if the charges on the list were minor and more than seven years old - there could be issues with sharing that information. "It sounds like we've not maintained the list as we should have and we're doing our best to make sure we comply," South Canterbury Property Investors' Association president Kerry Beveridge tells Guyon Espiner.
