Climate change declaration 'aspirational' - Local Govt NZ

From Morning Report, 7:56 am on 21 February 2019

The president of Local Government New Zealand, Dave Cull, says its climate change declaration is purely aspirational and no one is being pressured into signing up to it. On Wednesday, the Tasman-Coromandel Mayor, Sandra Goudie, told RNZ she would not sign it because it was politically charged. 55 councils have signed the document which Mr Cull says recognises councils have a part to play in mitigating climate change. He told Kate Gudsell his council was the first to sign up to it back in 2017.
