Fair or unfair? Public split on proposed tax changes

The public is split on the tax working group's suggestions, and especially over the capital gains tax. A new tax on the profits of sales of rental properties, holiday homes, most shares and business assets would allow what amounts to a cut in personal income tax by increasing the threshold of the bottom tax bracket. National is calling the slate of suggestions a "massive tax grab of eight new taxes". But opinion was mixed among people in central Wellington.
