Mentally ill student's rights breached by uni refusal - lawyer

A human rights lawyer says Victoria University may have breached the law when it revoked a student's offer of place because of her mental illness. Last year Kristin Legault's offer to study for three months in Wellington was revoked, after she disclosed that she had bipolar disorder. New Zealand human rights lawyer Queens Counsel Frances Joychild told Emma Hatton it's unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of mental health unless there is reason to believe the person poses a risk to themselves or others.
