From whodunnit to who won it - forensic software wins big prize

An ESR team has won the 2018 Prime Minister's Science Prize, worth $500,000, for crime-busting software used in forensics labs around the world. The STR-mix software package is used by investigators to interpret complex DNA profiles that might contain trace amounts of DNA from up to five people. Dr Jo-Anne Bright is with the Institute of Environmental Science and Research and helped develop STRmix. She speaks to Guyon Espiner.
