Common solution needed for Māori kids in state care - Tukaki

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 4 April 2019

The Maori Council is questioning why so many Māori children end up in care and get abused, and is calling on not only the government, but whānau to find answers. The council says tamariki are over-represented in both state care placements and state abuse statistics. Māori children make up 59 percent of all children in care. Oranga Tamariki shows more than 220 children placed in state care were abused last year -- and 70 percent of those children were Māori. Matthew Tukaki is the executive director of the Māori Council. He talks to Susie Ferguson.
