Military-style semi-auto gun ban passes through Parliament

From Morning Report, 7:11 am on 11 April 2019

Less than four weeks after a terrorist attacked two Christchurch mosques Parliament has passed a law banning the semi-automatic weapons he used to kill 50 people. MPs voted near unanimously last night in favour of the Arms Prohibited Firearms, Magazines and Parts Amendment Bill which makes most semi-automatic rifles and guns with large magazine capacity illegal. The Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, had promised to change gun laws just a day after the March the 15th attack and the bill was tabled in Parliament only on Monday last week.
