A 33-year-old man, accused of shouting Islamophobic comments and kicking and trying to damage memorial items along Deans Ave was arrested on Thursday night and will appear in the Christchurch district court on Friday. Canterbury Police have thanked the public for their assistance in locating the man. Yesterday Canterbury District Commander John Price admitted the police made a mistake in not arresting the man at the time. The police officer who failed to arrest the man is no longer working in Christchurch. Doctor Mustafa Farouk is the President of the Federation of Islamic Associations New Zealand. He talks to Susie Ferguson.
