$1.6m to fix Wellington bus system 'outrageous'

From Morning Report, 8:52 am on 15 April 2019

Contractors brought in to sort out Wellington's shambolic new bus rollout have been paid more than a million-and-a-half dollars to fix the problem. The new bus timetables and routes were launched in June last year. Suddenly, up to a third of buses were running late, drivers were taking the wrong routes, and whole services had to be cancelled because of a shortage of drivers. By the time Maori Language Week rolled around, Wellingtonians had mastered the phrase "paahi kehua"... or "ghost bus". Paul Eagle is the MP for Rongotai and says the amount spent paying contractors to fix something that should never have needed fixing is "outrageous". He talks to Guyon Espiner.
