Christchurch attacks: Victims' families given special NZ visa

From Morning Report, 6:43 am on 24 April 2019

From today those directly affected by the Christchurch terror attack and their families are able to apply to stay in New Zealand permanently. The government has created a special visa category for those who were in the Masjid Al Noor and the Linwood Islamic Centre at the time of the shootings, and also their immediate families. Because of the special circumstances the definition of 'immediate family' has been expanded and also includes dependent children, their partner's parents, and grandparents of children under 25. Jamaal Green of the Muslim Association of Canterbury told RNZ political reporter Yvette McCullough that he welcomed the government's creation of the special visa.
