Facebook to be fined US$5b for privacy violations

Facebook expects to be fined up to seven $US5 billion by the US Federal Trade Commission for privacy violations. The company had been in negotaiations with the regulator for months over claims it violated its users privacy in 2011 by promising to protect their privacy after it was found its handling of data had harmed consumers.
