Mid-air plane collisions very rare - former Air Force pilot

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 17 June 2019

Civil Aviation Authority investigators are about to begin examining the scene of yesterday's fatal mid-air plane crash in Masterton.

Two light planes collided, killing both pilots instantly.

One was flown by a relatively inexperience pilot, the other was a skydiving plane that was returning to Hood Aerodrome after dropping parachutists.

Corin Dann speaks to Scott McKenzie, an experienced former Air Force pilot living in Masterton, who says the local aviation community is devastated. He says mid-air collisions are very rare.
