Sent to hospital for pain relief, sent home with brain damage

From Morning Report, 7:21 am on 20 June 2019

A Dargaville woman is demanding answers after her husband went into hospital for pain relief and came out with brain damage.

Kylie Flood is asking the Health and Disability Commissioner to investigate what happened at Auckland City Hospital in February when her husband Trevor suffered a suspected morphine overdose.

He can no longer remember things like what year it is or how to use his TV remote control.

Mr Flood was admitted to the hospital dehydrated and in severe pain after completing a course of radiation therapy for throat cancer.

Kylie Flood won't forget the call she got telling her hospital staff were having problems waking her husband.
