Ombudsman launces inquiry after baby uplift attempt

From Morning Report, 8:20 am on 20 June 2019

The Ombudsman has launched an investigation into the steps Oranga Tamariki takes when removing newborn babies under a court order.

It's the third inquiry announced this week following backlash after Oranga Tamariki tried to remove a week-old baby from its 19-year-old mother at Hawke's Bay hospital.

Hawke's Bay District Health Board member Jacoby Poulain told Morning Report the inquiries need to look at more than just newborn babies.

Chief Ombudsman Judge Peter Boshier talks to Susie Ferguson.
